Fiber-optic (FO) lines
An electrical signal goes in- a light source transducer converts the signal to travel down a "optical fiber"- on the other end a light detector transducer converts the signal- electrical signal comes out.
I found it very interesting that LED's are used in transmitting the signal. Also I did'nt know that underwater fiber optic cable was still in use, I assumed that it was all done with satellites.
Information Storage
I remember when I thought it was amazing to have a zip disk. Now they are collecting dust in my basement. New advancements are increasing the amount of storage we can have in a small device. I can now buy a 1-terabyte device for around $200.
